Individual & Family Plan

Who can apply?

All UNISON members and their families aged 16 up to their 70th birthday can join this health plan. There are no medical questions to answer and you can stay on the plan as long as you wish.

What will I be covered for?

Everyday healthcare costs such as trips to the dentist and optician, plus a wide range of therapy treatments and other cash paying benefits. There are many benefits included, please refer to the Premium and Benefits Table below; you’re covered according to the cover level you choose.

What specific pre-existing conditions are covered?

Pre-existing conditions are covered for the following benefits; dental, optical, specialist consultations, tests and therapy treatments. The condition must relate to a medical condition which your GP has included in your medical records.

How do the hospital cash-paying benefits work?

If you are hospitalised as an In-Patient or Day Case for any new medical conditions that occur after joining, you can claim a cash benefit for each night or day you spend in hospital, up to your policy limit. If you are aware you are going to need to claim on this benefit, simply call the claims department for a hospital claim form. There is also a parental stay benefit that gives you a cash benefit should you have to accompany your child overnight in hospital.

What else is covered?

There are many other benefits such as cash payments in the event of the birth or adoption of a child, cover for a Dental Accident and towards Health Screening plus there is 24/7 access to a helpline for legal, medical or financial queries - almost any personal matter that may be causing concern to you, including identity theft. There’s even Accidental Death cover that will provide a lump sum.

What are children covered for?

Up to five children are covered for 50% of the amounts shown in the Premium and Benefits table where asterisked, up to their 16th birthday.

When can I start using this plan?

There is a thirteen week qualifying period before you can claim. You can then claim 100% money back on your bills, as often as you’d like, according to the cover level you choose.

How do I claim?

Simply pay your bill as normal, complete a claim form and return to us with your receipt and you will be receive your money back in a few days by cheque or bank transfer.
